Filming Blog. Not

My group and I finally finished perfecting our storyboard. We could have started filming this weekend but we were all so busy. I was busy due to one of my family members birthday on Saturday and on Sunday my mom wanted to have a family day. But we have a plan, which is to film on the 29th for sure. That Friday is very good because we don’t have school due to thanksgiving break. We couldn’t film without all of us because all three of use are in a few scenes. So that is why we need to plan dates where we can all be there. Filming after school would be the best but not everyone can get a ride to the filming location. Thursday is thanksgiving, which means we can’t film that day. On Friday we plan on filming all the footage if possible.
Friday at around 11 or 12, we plan on meeting at Leo’s house. We will start off with the scene of Leo waking up in his bed. Also film him waking out of the house and before that getting ready. Then the next scene is Leo getting in his car and starting it up. The car scene is also filmed at his house in the driveway. After getting in the car he gets onto a main street with traffic, which is out next location but only for a short period of time. In that scene we will only be filming from the car and recording the traffic. The traffic scene will lead to the park. The park is one of our main locations. I would say about more than half the video is at the park.
When we get to the park, the next scene will be Leo parking, then getting out of the car. Next he’ll be walking toward Brooke and I at the park. After the scene where he walks up to us, all the filling footage will be at the park. We’re hoping that everything goes smoothly. Also to do this as quickly as possible so we have a lot of time to edit. But since we’re using mostly natural lighting, we have to work quick if we start to late. This is because of how the sun goes down earlier now, which gives us less daytime. I think we’ll be fine because the park and Leo’s house are very close so it won’t take to much time to get from one place to the other. All we need now is to plan a day when we can edit together and decide on things we all like. I’m very excited to start filming and seeing Leo sing!

Storyboard for Music Video

My group and I are going to be filming a music video for the song “8TEEN” by Khalid pretty soon. Before then we’ll have to storyboard our ideas. The storyboard allows us to have a general idea of what we’re gonna film and what we’ll be incorporating. We’ll be incorporating multiple shots, movements, and angles throughout our video. For example, our first scene involves us filming our group member Leo waking up and we think a high angle would establish this the best. We’ll include other high and low angles somewhere in the video to show everything that we’ll be doing. The next scene would involve us using a long shot to film Leo opening his bedroom door. An action match, which is a fork of editing, allows for our next scene to happen which is Leo opening the rest of the car door. A wide shot will be used here to establish our member Leo and the car. The shots/angles/movements help build on what’s being filmed.
When it comes to the mis en scene we plan on acting as friends who know each other. Throughout the ending scenes in the storyboard you can see us acting as if we’re friends hanging out. Our costumes were dependent on the setting which is shown in the storyboard. The first setting is at a house so sleeping attire. The other setting is outside and at a park so normal attire. Natural lighting will be used since the daylight will be present during the park scenes. We will mostly film handheld so a more natural look of teenagers having fun is shown. Our sound is our song choice which was 8TEEN by Khalid. When it comes to editing we have a couple ideas. We want to include an action match during our second scene involving opening a bedroom door then cutting to a car door. We plan on using a reaction shot for the scene where Leo smells the thing in the car. We also plan on using jump cuts, dissolves, and fade outs for a nice and smooth process.

Planning Blog for Music Video

Today we’re currently planning for our music video. This is essential so we can have a smooth process once we start filming. A plan last time helped us tremendously, so we’re sure it’ll help us this time. The main parts of our planning involves location, health & safety, props, costumes, and our schedule.
1. Location-  We have a couple of locations we plan on filming at. One of the locations would be at our group member Leo’s house. A couple of our scenes involve him waking up so we plan on filming in his house. We’ll also be filming around the exterior of his house. We will also film around his neighborhood for scenes possibly involving the road. We will also be filing at the part for the second half of the music video.
2. Health & Safety- When it comes to health and safety, there are some precautions. We plan on filming some scenes in a car. Since we plan on filming in a car, we will wear seatbelts as a precaution incase we have to drive. In that situation, we’ll have an adult present just incase. If we have to walk and cross any roads, we’ll check both sides and make sure no cars are coming.
3. Props- We’ll be using a couple of props during the filming. We’ll need a car. This is for certain scenes where it talks about the way a car smells and talks about traffic. We’ll also need a phone for our beginning scene. We’ll need it to show the time, which is needed for our opening scene.
4. Costumes- For the music videos there aren’t that many costumes we will need. For the first couple of scenes we may need our group member Leo to wear sleeping attire. That would consist of gym shorts and a shirt. For the rest we will all be in normal attire. That will most likely be jeans, shirts, and sneakers. Our music video is essentially showing teenagers so that’s why it will be normal attire.
5. Schedule- Our schedule may change based on availability. Right now we have three dates we can all possibly film. Those dates are November 27, November 29 and December 1. These are the only dates where we can all most likely get together. We plan on editing the following week during our class periods and at home.

Intro to Music Video

So we finally finished our Gatorade commercial. Now were starting a very exciting new project. A MUSIC VIDEO! Im very excited to start this project because we get to film outside of school. This will allow us to have more options on where to film. We also get to pick a cool song that we all like. I feel like when we did our last project is was a little difficult because we had some problems, but now I think we have everything together and won't have as many problems. On our commercial we used natural lighting, which worked out pretty good so were going to use that again.
The song we all decided on was 8TEEN by Khalid. We picked this song because it's very chill and relaxing. Also it has a nice beat that you can also vibe too. Since the song is kind of slow and relaxed, we thought we could just sing along with it in the video. We can dance to it to because the beat is smooth but also has a hip to it. Picking this song was the best choice because it will be fun to film and its a good song that meets the requirements.
The genre that our song is in is R&B/Soul. This genre usually consists of medium shots and close-up shots. These camera angles are normally the most popular and are used a lot in this genre. They film slowly and the camera doesn’t move very fast. The sounds are are mainly smooth and calmly but sometimes can be more up lifting.
1. Costumes: The costumes are generally normal attire. In the music videos, the people wear everyday clothing.
2. Lighting: The lighting normally used is natural lighting or indoor lighting. They use this lighting because in the videos, they are mainly outside and indoor.
3. Actors: The people acting appear to be normal people and appear as friends to the music artist. This is mostly because in the videos the people seem to have some form of a relationship.
4. Makeup: In most music videos like ours, there doesn’t appear to be much makeup. The girls would wear everyday makeup.
5. Props- The props used are usually cars and items that fit the lyrics in the song. This is because the lyrics tend to tell a certain story.
6. Setting- The setting in these type of music videos are at normal places depending on what the lyrics are trying to say. They can vary from houses, the beach, or the mall.

Editing Blog

Last class was finally the day where we started editing our footage for the Gatorade commercial. I felt like editing was somewhat difficult because there were many good scenes to choose from. When I first got on to edit in pinnacle studios I had trouble transferring the footing from google docs to pinnacle studios. This was because I forgot to make a folder after we dumped the footage. But then after about ten minutes of trying new ways to fix the problem. I finally figured it out. Next we imported all the videos. The importing process took a long time. Then we started going through at least fifty videos to choose the best shots. There was also a sample video on pinnacle to show us how to do it and set stuff up on each track.
The first scene we started going through to find the perfect one was the shot of walking to the track. We had many of these shot but I had also messed some up because I wasn't ready. Also in some of those scenes some people kept interrupting us. After we found the one we dragged it to track two. Next the scene where we took the most shots was me walking, then setting my bag down and unzipping it. Then again dragged it next to the first scene on track two. The scene after that one was me putting my shoes on and getting in a running position. Continued to drag it like all the previous scenes to the track and so on fourth. Finally after all the footage we were going to use was in order, we had to leave because class was over. So since we had trouble in the beginning we had a late start, which didn't allow us to finish more things.
Today we had a less time to work on our editing because it was PSD. So as soon as we got into class we grabbed a computer to get as much time to edit as possible. Then logged into the laptop and got into pinnacle studios. Little did we know we wouldn't be able to edit today. This was because pinnacle studies wouldn't open or even respond. We waited so long for it to open but nothing. After trying many times to restart and open pinnacle studios, I started getting scarred because we couldn't get our footage and edit. So then we got another laptop but that didn't help at all. Finally I came up with idea to put all the footage from google docs to my flash drive and probably use imovie to edit it at home over the weekend. But now, thankfully, we have an extra day to finish the commercial and make it as best as possible.
