Filming the Commercial

Yesterday was the first day I filmed. I went to the track to film my commercial with my group-mates. I brought gatorade bottles, athletic wear, and a duffle bag. For my commercial I am advertising the brand Gatorade, so I thought that going to the track was a good idea because most athletes drink gatorade. The filming process went very smoothly, I followed our storyboard well. There were some changes I made while we were filming. I was the only one in the film and had to do many takes of the same scene, while my group members were telling me what to do and filming. I did a stunt where I had to just collapse on the ground. That stunt kind of hurt because I kept falling on the same part of my body. Since I was the only one in the film I had to make sure that each take was my best.
When we first started to film, I went to the the ramp/pathway for the first scene. There was where I had to do an "intense" walk with my duffle bag prop going to the track. We had a few setbacks while trying to film the next few scenes because people kept walking into our shot. Next, when everyone was gone I shot the scene from the ramp to the track. From there we shot where I put the bag on the floor and started to put on my running shoes. This scene in particular was the longest to film just because I wanted my group-mates to be happy. After putting my shoes on, I got into a position as if I was about to run. In this scene I used the tripod so it could be as still as possible. From that position i started to run. After running for a couple of seconds I was told to fall. The fall had a lot of impact on my arm.
After falling we filmed another scene with me on the floor. I then got up and aggressively stomped to get the gatorade. I did this to emphasize that I needed the gatorade for more energy. I then opened the gatorade and chugged it down. The last scene I filmed was where I was getting back into the running position. From there I started running again. Then it shows me completing the race joyfully. After filming my group-mates and I went back to the classroom to dump our footage and return the equipment. We created the folder and viewed some of the footage. I talked with my group and discussed how we could edit some of the footage.

Storyboard Blog

Today in class we started storyboarding for our commercial.  For our commercial we plan on using low angles for certain scenes. We will most likely use eye level shots during scenes of the track. We plan on using tilt for a certain scene of our subject getting ready to run. We also plan on using a flash pan for a certain scene where our subject regains energy and can run again after drinking the product. For shots we will be using establishing shots to show our location of filming and close ups to intensify the scenes. We will also use wide shots for when our subject is in a certain location. For editing transitions we aren’t entirely sure yet but we have some ideas. We will most likely use a jump cut, cutaway, and possibly a fade out in our commercial.

Editing Lesson Blog

Hi there. Today in class I learned lots of interesting things about editing  and how to use the camera. Also we learned the steps for signing stuff out like the camera and SD card. To use a camera you just open it and it tuns on. To charge the camera there is a U shaped port by the handle and there is a little door where the Sd card goes in. There is a red button to start and pause the footage. I also learned many thing about the tripod like that there is knob to make pan and tilt shots and that you can adjust the tripod to be lower or higher. Getting learn about all the features of a tripod and camera is important because it can help save time while filming.
Also another thing i learned was how to dump footage and what dumping meant. Dumping is defined as taking footage  from the SD card and and downloading it into the computer. When one person and one person only logs in then got o pinnacle studies. Next insert the Sd card into the reader. After creating a folder where you will dump all the footage. Check the DCIM for footage that is on the SD card and if the footage cannot be found got to private and click AVCHD then stream. When moving the footage you have to highlight and then drag everything. Finally remove SD card and return it.
Finally I learned how to import and export footage. Also how to edit. When importing the footage has to be moved from the folder on the desktop to pinnacle studies. To edit we got to pinnacle studies to edit and when there, all the raw footage will be there. I learned what an AV track does and how it works. The top track is where titles can go. The middle track is where the footage is inserted and the third track is where music can be put. While learning about editing we saw how to use the razor to delete footage that wasn't needed. Other techniques that i learned was how to put in music and transitions. Lastly when exporting we click export and then minimize pinnacle studies to make sure it saved before shutting off the computer.

Planning Blog for Gatorade Commercial

Today our group is currently planning our gatorade commercial. Right now we’re discussing what props we need. We need to know what we are going to need to bring in so that we have everything and can film our commercial. We are also talking about the costumes, schedule, locations, and back-up plans. It is very important that we plan what we are going to film so that we can be efficient and use time wisely. These all matter because with the proper supplies and the proper plan we can make our commercial look to the best of its ability.

1. Props:
gatorade items such as drinks and protein bars.
duffel bag acting as it has sport supplies in it.
2. Costumes:
athletic clothing such as shorts, jerseys, and sneakers.
3. Schedule:
        10/10- planning
        10/14- storyboard
        10/21- filming
        10/23- editing
4. Location list:
track- here we will run around the track, football field is also there incase we want to use it                            parking lot- to show us walking from there to track.
5. Back-up Plan:
Media Center Stairs- incase it rains we can use the stairs to show us running up and down them.
Incase someone is missing- for the scene when someone would hand the runner the gatorade bottle, instead we’ll show the runner walking back to the bag and getting the bottle.

Research Codes and Conventions

Today we got assigned our commercial project. We were given an option of up to four people in a group and we decided to work as a group of three. Our teachers gave us three options to choose from for our commercial. The options were a list of products, an anti-vaping campaign, or a commercial about our school. We decided to look at the list of products and ended up choosing to do a gatorade commercial.  Right now we have to research the codes and conventions that are typically in gatorade commercials.
Our group was unsure of what codes and conventions were so we started off by figuring out what they mean. Some examples of codes in gatorade commercials would be the setting, objects, clothing, and captions. The setting is normally at a sports field or in a gym. The objects are typically things that show the product like gatorade bottles and athletes. The athletes are usually shown drinking the product and then playing a sport. They’re shown as working hard after drinking the gatorade, which seems like it gives them energy. Clothing that the actors in the commercials wear are typically sports attire and athletics wear. The captions are their slogans or message they’re trying to get across about gatorade.
The conventions in gatorade commercials involve the camera angles, editing, lighting, and sound/music. They normally show close up angles of athletes and sometimes of them drinking the gatorade. The close ups are typically them preparing for what they’re about to do. The lighting is usually dim in certain scenes. The camera is often moving to show the actions that are going on and is never really still. The sound/music in these commercials are normally intense. The sound shows that there’s a lot of action going on or that they’re working harder. All of this is typically after drinking the gatorade. They use the sound effects of crowds to intensify the importance and excitement of the commercial. This is what compiles a gatorade commercial.

Intro

Hello, my name is Madeline but you can call me Maddy for short. I would like to think of myself as relaxed and outgoing. I love making conversation and socializing with new people. I love hanging out with my friends during my free time and spending time with my family. I really like school but there is one thing i don’t like and that’s is very annoying and that is waking up at 5:30 AM.
I love soccer! I mostly watch the world cup when it comes around and occasionally watch major league. My favorite team for the world cup is Brazil. My favorite players on that team are Philippe Coutinho, Neymar, and Roberto Firmino. When ever I play/watch soccer I get very competitive but I enjoy it and have lots of fun. I keep up with scores and games everyday and constatou check players ratings and how they performed in their last game.
Im a sophomore at Fort Lauderdale High School and I have eight class but there split into four and transition every other day. My first four classes are on A day and then the last four on on B day. I like most of my classes except for global perspectives. My top three classes are math, english, and media studies. I also love peer counseling because i get to help around and do many activities. I also can’t wait to start filming in media. I would say that my B days are a little more relaxed then my A days and i really enjoy B days because i have study hall and it gives me extra time to complete homework or maybe just socialize because I have a lot of friends in that class. That’ll be all for now. Bye!:)
See you soon,
Madeline(Maddy)
