Filming Blog: Park Scenes

Today was our second filming day. When school finished for the day we went over to one of my group-mates house. We had to get her car so we could get to our filming locations. We went to a park that was near leo and brooke's house. Leo made sure we had all our props and that we were ready to film. Since it was the second day we had to wait to film around the same time as yesterday. In the mean time we shot some extra house scenes. Then went over to the park at the perfect time. Since I was only in a few scenes I didn't have much to do but wait around. I looked through the footage to make sure that everything was good.
The first few shots involved Leo exiting the car and walking to a bench near by. We had to shoot this a few times just to make sure no one was in the background while we filmed. For the most part it was just Leo being filmed because he was the main character. Next scene was Leo and I interacting in a serious way. This involved me handing Leo an envelope with a photo. That was all we needed at the park so it was time to move on. After we still had some time left to film a bit more so we went to our friend Aaron's house who was the victim in the film. I wasn't in any of the scene so yet again I just helped with directing and waited. The only scenes we got done was of Leo stalking Aaron and sending some messages. It then started to get dark so we all left, maybe we'll finish up filming the last parts tomorrow.

Filming Blog: House Scenes

Today February 27, 2020 was finally the first day we filmed. We weren't able to film before due to numerous issues. After school finished my group and I took a ride to Leo's house and filmed our house scenes. Once we got there I changed intro my all black clothes for our film. Since Leo was the main character he was in the majority of the scenes. We all decided that Leo should wear all black because it added like a creepy vibe. After that we set up everything and started filming . We started following the scenes involving the house and the surrounding areas in chronological order. The first scene was of Leo getting his supplies and shoving them into a bag. We shot this scene a few time so when we edited we could choose the best one.

Leo got distracted easily so me and Aaron had to step out of the room so he could really focus. After filming that scenes inside the house, we moved onto outside of the house. When we were shooting the car scene, we had to do lots of takes because we were at a weird angle. After that we decided that we should add a trunk shot. We all thought this was a really good idea and it turned out great. We made sure this scene was done multiple times because this was a very important shot. I was so happy that we had good lighting because earlier it said that it was going to get cloudy. The house scenes are all we did for today but we plan on filming our other scenes during the next few days. Thankfully we got all of those scene done and are now ready to film at our other locations.

Filming Blog: Rain Check

Sadly, my group and I weren’t able to film this past weekend. We were planning to film on Sunday and then I ran into some issues. This caused our filming schedule get pushed back even more. I had all of the props, which made it hard for my group-mates to film without me. Since the beginning of our film involved almost all of the props like the duffle bag, rope, and a fake knife. This made it even more difficult because the props are needed throughout the whole film. Also I was in a few scenes so obviously they couldn't film those parts anyways. However, my group-mates pulled through and managed to get a few things done.

My group-mates thought that they should still meet up anyways. This was so they could have an idea of how our film would look like when we’re ready to record it. Leo decided that it would be best if him and brooke met at at house since we would be filming a few scenes there. Since they couldn’t really record any scenes because they needed the props, that they could still act them out. They thought it would be useful for when we actually have to act once we film. They didn't have props so they used random objects. Leo acted out the opening scene of the murderer going into the closet to get his supplies and then emptying it out. Brooke filmed those scenes so they could review them. They rehearsed some of the scenes so they could prepare. Filming will take place throughout the rest of this week. Im very excited to finally start. Hopefully, everything will go according to plan this time.

Filming Blog: On Hold

My group and I weren't able to film this week. We just couldn't find a time where we were all free. Its very hard because some of us have jobs or other important things to do outside of school. I was busy doing a project and lots of other school work but now we have figured out a date that will most likely work with all our schedules. Since we didn't have that much more time to film we all had to clear out on of our days to film. It will probably be on Sunday, which is February 23. We would like to film as soon as possible and quickly. This is to make sure we have enough time to edit and do our titles. We are actually still waiting for some of our props to arrive in the mail. Other than that I think we are all set to start filming because we have a solid storyboard and have everything planned out.
Im very excited to start filming! Its going to be such a great experience since were doing a thriller. Even though I only have a small role, Im still going to enjoy it and have lots of fun. I will be playing the murders boss. I really hope I don't mess up during my scene because we will be filming during the evening, so we will only have a few hours of sunlight before it gets dark.  Im pretty sure all really need is one day to film, unless we have to reshoot some scenes. The part I'm most excited about is the scene with the fake gun and knife because it will add so much suspense. All of the filming will be taking place at my group-mates house, a park, and an ally. Hopefully we'll have all our props by Sunday and be all set to start filming. So yeah, I cant wait to see my group-mates and start filming something we worked really hard on and are passionate about.

Planning Blog: Storyboard

This is the storyboard we’ve done for our final project. In the storyboard is a detailed imagination of how each scene is going to be made and what will be happening in it. Drawings are involved to show what going on and writing is present as well. The writing involved what the drawing is showing and the type of camera shot or angle is involved. Also present in the storyboard is which scenes will have each of our titles. It’s good to plan this out ahead so we have a little guidance when it comes to editing. This storyboard is essentially our guide for filming our final video. The detail of the drawings and the writing telling us what shots to use will make the filming process way easier for us. Without the storyboard we would be pretty lost during the filming and editing stages. This gives us a well thought out plan that we can follow.

Planning Blog: Titles

Now that my group and I finished our planning and schedule, we are ready to start on our titles. To do this, we are mainly focusing on how we are going to design the titles. We discussed the font tone that we will be using, and we decided that we will be using only one font. In addition to this, we also chose what color and size our titles will be. As well as the purpose as to why it is important for the titles to be readable for the audience. We also agreed on the spacing and decided that the leading spacing we will use is going to be 1.5. My group and I came up with a working title for our opening sequence as well. However, we are not completely sure that we will use the one we chose, and we might change it later. We talked about how our titles will enter and leave the screen as well to make it go along with the film. Lastly, we figured out how long each title will be on the screen before it disappears.

Planning Blog: Health, Location, Schedule, and Participants

In our powerpoint, we talk about our schedule, location, actors, and health/safety. The second slide is where we will be filming. We decided to film at our group mates house and near a park. The third slide is our participants. We got a few of our friends to be in the film and help around.  The fourth is our health and safety slide. We will have a parent supervising and fake weapons will be used. Our fifth slide is our schedule, which is when we are filming and editing. February 15th will be the very first day we will start the filming process. Filming will probably go from February 15th to the 23rd, everything after filming will be editing and 'final touches'.

Planning Blog: Sound Script

Below is our Google Slide which contains our sound script. All the sounds we plan on using are described here. The sounds are the only thing discussed while everything else is discussed in our shooting script. This script allows us to think of the sounds that we’ll need for our movie. The sole focus on the sound allows us to fully understand and incorporate them. Our diegetic and non-diegetic sounds should be though of before we film so that’s why we’re coming up with them here. The sound enhances the scenes and incorporating them helps form the scenes together. This plan if the sounds we plan on incorporating helps keep us on track and we don’t plan on diving off of it that much. We don’t plan on incorporating dialogue but rather using the background noises to enhance the experience. Everything is in chronological order to align with our shooting script.

Planning Blog: Shooting Script

The Google Slide below contains my group and I’s shooting script. A basic rundown of events are explained throughout. It’ll cover the events going on and the order that they’ll be happening. All the events are chronological places in each slide from top to bottom. We also include the lighting in some of the scenes. Pretty much everything but the sounds are discussed, but we will talk about them in our Sound script. Everything that’ll occur in the first two minutes of our final exam is gone over in here. The beginning is showing the preparation of our main character gathering his supplies which will end up leading to the eventual murder of the victim. We still have to work on character names which we’ll incorporate once we can figure them out. These are the essential basics of how we want the scenes to go but we won’t go that off from the original material.
